Outdated encryption for textbook servers

When I logged on to https://sso.rumba.pearsoncmg.com/sso/login?profile=snp&k12int=true&service=https://www.pearsonsuccessnet.com:443/snpapp/login/login.jsp , I got an alert from Google Chrome saying that it is using obsolete cryptography. I am very concerned about my privacy, especially considering the recent news about insecure websites. If this isn't fixed, hackers could find out passwords in a snap. In fact, there could be a breach already. Please fix this so that there is no possibility of students loosing their passwords. Upon logging in to Pearson MyLab, the error message "There is a problem with your authentication, possibly due to inactivity. For your safety, you have been logged out and must sign in again to continue." persists. I am unable to reach customer support through their toll-free number as well as through their "live-chat". I understand that they are most likely overwhelmed with users attempting to access their content, but seeing as it is final exam time for myself and many other University students, it is pathetic that their support system is unable to handle this issue. I will not be purchasing ANY Pearson products in the future.

HOW DARE YOU!

How dare you create state tests that are above the developmental level of the children you are testing? I am a 3rd grade teacher in a district that is performing well. Even my brightest students struggle with these tests. I am speaking now of the ELA test. The wording of some of the questions is ridiculous. In the writing portions, many children can articulate and substantiate their thoughts with the "oh so powerful" text evidence you demand, and yet if it is not the interpretation your company considers "correct," they fail the question. There can be more than one interpretation a reader derives after reading a passage. I'm just so angry with the difficulty level of these tests. My students worked hard this year to grow as readers and writers and yet this ONE TEST (which is ridiculously hard) will not allow that to be shown. And…. I can be deemed an ineffective teacher if their scores are poor. In NY, we as teachers are fighting back against Gov. Cuomo's education reform agenda that will make 50% of our teacher evaluations based on these ridiculous tests. The positive side of this fight is that it is bringing to light how poorly designed these tests are. THAT IS A GOOD THING.

PARCC Test Bullying

1.0
Details
This test is riddled with problems, but your greedy agenda doesn't care as long as the cash keeps flowing. I am a mother of a HS Junior that was bullied (unsuccessfully) into taking your test. She was told she wouldn't graduate if she didn't take the test. She was informed that she would be punished to the fullest extent they were allowed because of her "insubordination". I've done my research, and I'm tired of the run around and the nonsense that seems to be all that's coming our way. You permit monitoring of our childrens' social media in order to keep them quiet, and that's wrong in every sense of the word. You've awakened a monster in our families. We are going to stand up and fight this.

PARCC testing and spying

My children were allowed to take the first round of PARCC testing only to save ourselves from being indirectly punished by our district and in some fashion which I'm sure to come by Pearson if they have their way. PLEASE NOTE: My children did discuss the CCRAP testing with me. I'm their parent and am bound to protect them in every way possible. Did they provide specific test questions? No. They did however discuss with me the number of typographical errors, inconsistencies in how questions were written, the unclear directions, and more important how developmentally inappropriate the level of questions were to their grade level. To be clear, my children both test far above average on the national level and attend a A+ rated district; therefore, it isn't a case of their not being educated to the proper level. My complaint is that these tests seem to be the beginning of a larger issue which is Pearson monopolizing our future. The fate of our students are being determined and defined by a UK based company. Our data including that of our children is being shared with contractors who are paid to specifically track down people that may have violated Pearson's rules of disclosure. My children aren't of the legal age in which they can enter a non-disclosure agreement and I can promise you that I received no such agreement. My complaint is Pearson a foreign owned company is being allowed to monopolize something that I and every other citizen of the US is guaranteed - the right to a free education. Pearson is aiming to eliminate public schooling and 'reform' the dumb Americans to private for profit schools. Enough profit. Go back over the pond and leave the future of our children to us. Develop your own country. Over test and under-educate your children.

Review in Education category from West Farmington, Ohio

I have opted my grandson who is in 4th grade out of your testing. You will not getting his info. Your test are ruining our school. The teacher can't teach anymore because all they do is practice for these worthless tests. The teachers can do there own tests and find out where his learning needs help or not. You know nothing about teaching. You set in your beautiful office and think up *** things to test kids with. You are taking learning out of our schools and making all our kids hate school so much they all want to quit. Go away and find something else to do with your time. Leave our kids alone!!!!

Product inappropriate

Tests do not seem to be developmentally appropriate for grade-level of students. The questions are one to two years above the grade level of children taking the test. If a huge portion of students fail the tests, Pearson can then offer remedial assistance that can be bought by the school districts. What a brilliant way to make even more money. Sounds like a conflict of interest to me. Do not like the secrecy surrounding said tests--parents and teachers cannot see students' tests. Too much invasion of privacy--data collection of children, monitoring social media, etc. It's all very disconcerting and extremely inappropriate. Seems like Pearson has the corner on the market of curriculum, assessment, and remedial materials--quite the profit-driven, corporate machine, over-taking our country's schools. NOT in favor of the Pearson monster at all.

Ruining our Education

Get out of our schools....you are running the education of our children and also using them to as pawns to make yourself a boat load of money. Take your textbooks and PARCC testing and be gone. Objective facts, such as names, dates and events are not taught in American history, but political bias and opinion. You are teaching religion with omissions and errors and poisoning our student minds, especially those in the younger grades. You don't teach of the miracle of the founding of this country, that it was created of the people, by the people and for the people. Your version of history looks nothing like anything I ever learned.

Pearson products are worthless to the consumers who are forced to use them.

1.0
Details
Pearson's products are low quality from their tests to Powerschool. The consumer who uses their products are not the people who buy the products, so there is no check and balance on the quality of what you get for your money. The products are so bad that the company has to rely on government mandates to sell them rather than selling of their own accord. The public "thinks" the teachers who use so many of these products choose them, but they don't. The tests are low quality, that only give the most vague picture of student growth and are not given back in any time frame in which an educator can use them. Powerschool is a clunky program that barely keeps up with the Java updates (and sometimes doesn't) that support it. I know high school students who could write better code. It is nothing but an online calculator. Educators are forced to use them because their districts or ISDs contract with them without much if any review of the product before purchase. Their online textbooks are more expensive over time than their paper textbooks. Pearson is a cash cow that does not have to consider what the market will bear because even though their users hate all their products they are forced to use them. Not impressed, not one single bit.

Pearson Education - Library Media Test Review from Valley Cottage, New York

I am a new NY teacher waiting on my CST score for certification. I took my Library Media test Nov 22, 2014. There are very few school media jobs in the state, let alone openings. You are preventing me from applying for the few 2015-16 jobs that are now starting to post. This is bad Ed Practice. We would never pass edTPA without student scoring rubrics in place. You have taken my $139 and given me Nothing!
