I am in an online college course through Devry University in conjunction with Chamberlain College of Nursing to obtain my bachelors of science in nursing. I have a 4.0 GPA and have almost completed all courses required to obtain my degree.

I have a 4.0 in advanced college math courses as well as college statistics. I am in the 7th week of an 8 week course in Economics (macroeconomics) of which the college is using Pearson. Up until week 3 I was doing well in this course when I began to run into issues. I sent an email to the professor to discuss graphing problems in the course and was told that I needed to review math courses that were a requirement before I took this course.

I informed him that I have taken said required math courses and know how to graph, and that I need his instructions on what it is that I am not doing correctly. His response was that online courses like this are difficult if not impossible to teach, and that if I had any "specific" questions he would address those. I told him that I would need to know what specific questions to ask him, before I could ask specific questions, as almost all the information I am gleaning from the site is inadequate at best. I was then directed to contact tutor sources at the college.

I contacted tutor sources and after nearly 30 minutes of being either transferred or placed on hold a man finally came on the phone to speak with me. I am articulate of speech, and this man could barely speak English. Not only was he using broken English, his accent was so thick I had to have him repeatedly reiterate what he was saying. After awhile of speaking with him I realized it was futile to continue.

Week 4 I was doing the homework assignments which are graded, of which you can take multiple times until you get the correct answer. I was using this as a teaching tool as I am having to teach myself this subject, and I am getting no feedback from the professor. I was doing the math correctly and when I would enter that answer a popup would appear on the screen saying "That is not correct", and would display the same answer that I entered as the correct answer. I took photos of my computer screen showing this and submitted them to the professor as he needed proof that this was occurring.

Not only were the math problems doing this, but the word problems as well. I was clicking on a bubble to answer the word problem and a popup would say "That is not correct" and show the correct answer which was the same answer as I entered. Also, my computer screen would freeze, and when I tried to go back to the main college site, it was frozen as well, and had to completely log out of the system and reenter the system to continue. This occurred every time.

I was then directed to contact Tech support to get this issue resolved. I was told that my Chrome browser did not work with the Pearson product and that I needed to download and use Firefox to work with the Pearson program. I did this, and it resolved the freezing screen issues, but the homework assignments were doing the same thing, popups that said this is not correct, and showing the answer as the same I entered. I submitted this to the professor and was again directed to contact Tech support for a resolution.

I contacted Tech support again, and was told that there was no resolution and to contact the professor and provide him the incident report numbers that I was given. I did this and was told by him there was nothing he could do (limp noodle). By this time week 5 came about, and I again was told to contact Tech support with all the issues I had been having, which I did. I was told that my Windows 10 operating system was incompatible with the Pearson program, and that Pearson was working on upgrading the system to address this issue, but they could give me no time frame in which this would occur.

Not being an overly emotional person, I was in tears over this. I finally contacted my student advisor to inform her of what is going on. She directed me to the student advisor president to tell him what was going on. I did this and provided him with the screenshots I took on my phone, and he told me that he would contact the professor to get this situation straightened out.

My week 5 grades were changed and I was given perfect scores for that week. I told them that I do not want to have my degree just handed to me, I want to earn it as I have all my college degrees. Week 6, same issues, contacting everyone and still no resolution. Week 7, I was contacted by a Pearson representative who provided me with a link so that he could access my computer screen to see what was occurring

(Join WebEx meeting

During this conversation he asked me what was happening and what steps I took to resolve this. Before I could get the words out of my mouth, he would interrupt me and over talk me, attempting to interject that I am the one with the problem. I told him to stop interrupting me and let me finish a sentence. I also told him that I realize you are protecting your Pearson program and have no real interest in finding a resolution for these issues.

He denied this and said that he has my interests in mind and was trying to see what he could do to resolve this (his nose grew a foot during this conversation). I submitted to him the screenshots that I had already submitted to the school showing what had been going on up until now. We then worked on some of the homework questions (he has the key to the answers of the questions and the exams) and when I clicked on a bubble of the answer that the question was answering a popup showed up on the screen saying that this is not correct and then displayed the same answer that I had chosen. He was resistant to be shown what he was seeing on my computer, and said the correct answer is d.) but I kept pointing him to direct his eyes to the screen and see what was happening.

I was not dissuaded by his double talk, or his strong arm tactics to make me believe that I was the one with the problem. I had to literally shove his nose in the **** to get him to smell it. He finally conceded that there is a problem and that he would be in contact with the assistant Dean of the college, and the professor. He suggested that a good resolution was to have all the homework assignments and quizzes from the previous weeks released so that I could redo them.

I told him this is not feasible as this is the end of week 7, that I am studying for the final, have homework assignments due, work full time, and manage a household. At the end of this conversation he told me that he would contact the assistant Dean and the professor and get this straightened out for me. I received an email from the professor yesterday and in it Mr. Anton stated that the problem is that I do not understand the questions because of the wording, that he saw no other problems and that the resolution is to have me redo all the previous weeks assignments and exams.

The professor stated he would work with me on this, and as I noted he historically has stated that teaching this online class is next to impossible. He also stated in a previous email that he would return answers to questions within 48 hours, 24 at best. He also stated that he would extend the short week 8 by two days for me so that I could complete all that is required. I have worked my best with the college and Pearson, and have been given the runaround and been lied to.

I have a collection in my arsenal from other students who emailed me with the same issues as well as online emails to the professor detailing the same problems other students that I am experiencing. I was told by the professor in an earlier conversation that it is against federal regulations for students to communicate with each other. I told him who do you think you are kidding. For your viewing pleasure, I have provided the screenshots that I described in this forum.

I have also obtained the phone numbers and email addresses to the board of higher education in Illinois and Washington D.C. It is about to get real!

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Pearson Education Cons: Quality of assessments, Wait time, Customer service, Being lied to and strongarm tactics by pearons rep.

Location: Fresno, California
